From the very first day, Bartosz (part of Sofius) has been working for the Tax Authorities. That’s almost 20 years now. The Tax Authorities focus on developing software that truly matters. A great client where a large number of our consultants enjoy or have enjoyed working. One of these testers is Diana Dirksen-van Tuijl. She fulfilled the role of tester for over 4 years, working closely with Ingrid Gloudemans, who served as the Product Owner.
The Challenge
The Tax Authorities work daily with complex digital systems in which large amounts of confidential information are processed. The reliability and security of these systems have a direct impact on millions of people in the Netherlands. ICT plays a crucial role in this, and software testing is indispensable for guaranteeing quality. The challenge is to continuously ensure that new functionalities, such as digital forms, are delivered flawlessly, user-friendly, and completely securely. As a tester, Diana made a valuable contribution to this, including working on the development of digital forms, such as the well-known income tax return form.
“The challenge is to continuously ensure that new functionalities, such as digital forms, are delivered flawlessly, user-friendly, and completely securely.”
The Collaboration
Ingrid worked almost daily with Diana, who was hired as an external consultant by the Tax Authorities. From asking critical questions about the design of the forms to discussing the findings: they were completely aligned on the testing process and the quality they aimed to deliver. As a designer, Ingrid figured out what needed to be built; Diana then tested the built modification and critically reviewed the design. Is this the right solution for the user story? For Ingrid, it was ideal to have a tester like Diana on her team, as she could always rely on her work.
“Ingrid could rely on me that the modification was thoroughly tested and functional for the user.”
Daily Operations
Diana consistently started her day by checking the overnight regression tests. When errors emerged, she immediately investigated the cause: was it a bug, a regression, or did the test automation need to be adjusted? After that, she picked up tasks from the Scrum board and participated in the Daily Scrum at 9:30 AM, where the team discussed progress and any particulars. No two days were the same; the work consisted of tackling sprint tasks, refining new features for upcoming sprints, and supporting fellow testers by reviewing their work and helping them along.
“Diana is an enthusiastic and driven tester. She continues to develop herself in her field, including by taking courses.”
